Seeking a NEW JERSEY based high-octane Director for Better Than Broadway Productions. About the Role
Looking for someone who can thrive under pressure and consistently deliver. Instantly master and execute a non-negotiable, one week rehearsal schedule. This requires an incredible level of preparation, organization, and a go get it attitude from day one. Actively perform, sing, and dance alongside elementary school students to model professional behavior and raise the artistic bar, all while teaching. Take full creative and logistical command, utilizing quick wit and rapid problem-solving to turn potential chaos into a polished final performance. Master the art of managing and collaborating with diverse non-theatrical personnel (school staff, parent volunteers) to harness their energy and resources for a shared, successful outcome. Maximize the potential of every young actor, from first-timer to veteran, by casting and coaching within the existing script and score to ensure every child has a challenging, visible, and meaningful role.
The ideal candidate possesses a Director/Performer Identity, demonstrated, professional-level talent in acting, singing, and dancing with directing/assistant directing experience in musical theater. (Bonus points: A portfolio that showcases experience working with children.); an unteachable trait, an innate, professional hunger to take ownership and lead projects from concept to applause, backed by an infectious passion for arts education; and logistical reliability, absolute reliability and dependable transportation to and from NJ school locations.

Dates & Locations
This structured, paid training program is a direct path to a highly competitive solo director role; for trainee director, 7-8 weeks of full-time, hands-on assisting and learning our process, scheduled during various weeks from January - October 2026 and for solo director (annual seasonal contract), up to 20 weeks of seasonal, project based work from October through May 2026.

Compensation & Contract
Rate: $1,350 - $1,500 / week
Total Pay: $27,000 - $30,000 (est. 20 weeks of work)
Additional: 7-8 weeks of training paid in cash; $500/wk. for Trainee Director and $1,350-1,500 gross/wk.
Note: Salary would be contingent upon completion of training. Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable access to a vehicle for travel throughout New Jersey.
